Caring Hearts Initiative currently have over 24 volunteers working with us from Lagos – Nigeria.

Why Do We Need Volunteers?

For Community Outreach

This is important because, they are part of the community and they know how best to reach them to get a positive response.

For Community Input

The Volunteers will be in a better position to get the needed positive response from fellow dwellers.

To Personalise Service Delivery

This is because they are the face of the organisation that people see and talk to and also receive feedback from.

To Provide Community Monitoring

The Volunteers live in the community so this will be easy to handle as they don’t need to travel far.

To Gain Additional Expertise

This comes to play in the aspect of language barrier or culture difference.

To Demonstrate Community Support

This happens when we have Volunteers from the community we serve.

To Save Cost

This is an advantage for the organization.

To Supplement Staff Resources & Expertise

This is an advantage for the organization.

Responsive Parenting

Topics to be discussed will based on better parenting, leadership, resilience and more.

πŸ₯¬ Nutrition

Service delivery activities involves home visit, to check on the kinds of food the children feed on at home, to see if it’s what the nutritionist recommends for the children. This activity is done by Volunteers.

A home visit form will be made available to capture all that is needed during the visit and that will also show as an evidence of the visit and a feedback for the organization.

🩺 Health

Here the organization would have established a working relationship with the general hospitals and healthcare centres in the community we work.

A referral form will also be made available for parents through the Volunteers to take along to the hospital or health centers when the children fall sick.

After consultation the Volunteers can them pay or buy the recommended medication for the sick child. If the child is admitted, the Volunteer will conduct hospital visit on behalf of the organization. A form will be completed as evidence of the hospital visit.

πŸ§‘β€πŸ« Preschool/Early Stimulation – Education

For the preschool children, the Volunteers will visit them at home to find out how they are learning their stimulation while those that are of school age will be enrolled in school.

It is best to work with SUBEB which is the government school board, but from experience most children attend private schools now, so the organization would also visit such school to establish a working relationship for the better performance of the children.

Again, the Volunteers will be equipped with the school visit form to capture all that is need and it will also serve as evidence of visit and a source of feedback for the organization.

🦺 Safety/Security – Protection

The organization would have also done advocacy visit to the local government in the community we will be working in to help secure birth registration certificate for the children register in our ECD program.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘¦ Responsive Parenting

The Volunteers will be the one facilitating the different activities in this area. The caregivers will be divided into groups and facilitate classes once in month. Topics to be discussed will based on better parenting, leadership, resilience and more.
