BE A SAFE PERSON LIKE JESUS
Luke 7:36-50 Notice how safe Jesus is. This sinful woman can be this intimate with Jesus without fear. She doesn’t need to fear that he will be checking her out, evaluating her body with her gaze. She doesn’t fear that Jesus will judge her, reduce her in his eyes to her worst act or biggest regret. She doesn’t fear that Jesus will take anything from her, or take anything of her.
So what does a safe person look like? And more importantly, how do we become one?
A safe person is humble.
Humble people don’t look down on others from their “superior” position, but they don’t put others on a pedestal either. They understand that the ground is level at the foot of the cross.
A safe person understands grace and gives it to others.
Grace is acceptance. God accepts us just as we are but He doesn’t agree with our sin.
Safe people encourage others, by their example of transparency and authenticity.
Safe people remember there are two sides to every story, and they wait to make a judgment till they hear the other side.
Safe people seek to maintain a non-judgmental attitude toward others.
They don’t shame others. They don’t criticize others.
Safe people are honest people.
They speak the truth in love (Eph. 4:15) as a way of life. Safe people are good listeners.
Safe people love with God’s love.
Safe people love others unconditionally. They love the way God loves.
Safe people are forgiving people.
They extend to others the forgiveness they have received from God and from others.
Be a safe person like Jesus – Be a safe parent, a safe spouse, a safe volunteer, a safe leader, a safe discipler, and also a safe friend.
